After 16 years as an assistant and associate head coach for the Colorado Buffaloes, Mike Rohn is heading back home to take the associate head coaching job for the Kansas City Roos.

Rohn grew up in Colby, Kansas, and played four years of college basketball in Kansas: two years at Dodge City Community College and two at McPherson College.

He began his coaching career at McPherson College, but was only there for one season (1989-90). Rohn moved around Kansas for a couple of years before returning to Dodge City as an assistant and eventually his first head coaching job.

Aside from returning home, Rohn has another reason for joining the Roos: reuniting with Mark Turgeon.

“Coach Turgeon and I have been part of some special teams and many amazing wins in the past, and I am looking forward to many more here,” Rohn said. “I am really looking forward to being part of a very special coaching staff that Coach Turgeon has put together."

Previously, the two coached alongside each other for a decade at Wichita State (2000-07) and Texas A&M (2007-10). Turgeon was the head coach during those periods, and Rohn was an assistant coach for the Shockers and served as the director of basketball operations for the Aggies.

Together, Rohn and Turgeon finished with a losing record just once and made the NCAA Tournament four times. In 10 years alongside one another, Rohn and Turgeon’s teams had a 201-121 record and enjoyed six 20-win seasons.

Rohn left the Aggies in 2010 to join the Buffs as an assistant coach in Tad Boyle's first year as head coach. In 2017, Rohn was named associate head coach and has held that position since. Together in Boulder, Rohn and Boyle suffered just two losing seasons, amassed a record of 329-220 and reached March Madness six times.

Turgeon departed from Texas A&M one year after Rohn and became the head coach for the Maryland Terrapins from 2011-22. He continued to succeed, taking Maryland to March Madness five times and winning the Big Ten regular season championship in 2019-20. On Feb. 1, Turgeon was named the new head coach of the Kansas City Roos.

Now reunited again, the two have a tall task ahead, looking to turn around a program that won just four games last season, including one conference win in the Summit League.
