The Colorado Buffaloes’ spring season came to a close Saturday with a 1-0 defeat to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, a result that didn’t reflect the run of play but leaves the Buffs with plenty to build on heading into the summer.

Nebraska struck early, finding the net inside the first five minutes to take a lead they would not relinquish. Head coach Danny Sanchez wasn’t pleased with how it happened.

“A little disappointed to give up that soft goal in the third minute, but we still had 87 minutes,” he said.

The second half was a different story. Colorado dominated possession and created multiple chances on goal. Ava Priest had a header blocked, and on multiple occasions, Colorado’s shots were saved right off the goal line. The Buffaloes earned back-to-back corners late and continued to push. More chances defended with sharp goalkeeping from Nebraska held the Buffs just short. The equalizer never came.

Sanchez pointed to composure as the missing ingredient.

“Some days it’s just not your day,” Sanchez said. “That little extra bit of composure in the final third, the quality of the service, and then you start to panic a little bit, you start looking at the clock, and it's counting down, and you kind of make decisions you don't normally make.”

Despite the loss, Sanchez liked what he saw overall.

“I thought it was a great match. It felt like a regular-season game," he said. “We played really well in the second half, and now it's all about getting ready for July.”

For Sanchez and the team, a competitive game like this against a strong Power Four opponent is exactly what the spring schedule is for.

“This is the reason we play Nebraska in the spring,” he said. “We’d take five of these if we could get them.”

Colorado will now break for the summer before returning to the field in July to begin preparations for the 2026 fall season.
