FORT MYERS Fla. & LOS ANGELES – This past weekend was a busy one for the Colorado Buffaloes tennis team, as part of the team was in action in Los Angeles for the ITA Fall Sectionals, while other members were down in Florida participating in the Florida Gulf Coast University Invite.
Starting in Fort Myers, the Buffaloes faced off against Memphis, Purdue and Florida Gulf Coast. Five Buffs were in action as the team shined in doubles play, going 6-0 over the weekend. National Championship hopefuls Ema Bubalo and Anya Nelson led the way with a 6-4 victory over Memphis and two 6-3 victories over FGCU and Purdue.
In singles play the Buffs went 6-9 in Fort Myers.
Across the country in Los Angeles, senior Mila Stanojevic and graduate Aya El Sayed were the only two Buffs in action. Stanojevic went 1-1 in singles play with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over UCLA before falling to Arizona in the consolation semifinals 6-7(6), 4-6.
The two only played one doubles match in the quarterfinals where they lost to Washington 3-6, 6-7(5).
This weekend was the end of the fall season for most of the team. However, Bubalo and Nelson are still in the hunt for a National Championship in doubles after a great season. The duo will travel to Waco, Texas, on November 20 for the NCAA Individual Championships at the Hurd Tennis Center on the Baylor University campus.
