In Week 12 of the college football season and week two of the College Football Playoff (CFP) poll, the Colorado Buffaloes (7-2, 5-1 conference) climbed three spots in the rankings to No. 17. This is the highest ranking for Colorado since 2016 when they were ranked No.10 in the final CFP poll.
Following their win against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the Buffs are ranked second in the Big 12. The Buffaloes have three games remaining on their schedule (two home, one away) and are guaranteed to make the Big 12 Championship if they win out. However, CU would have to win the Big 12 Championship to get a bid for the CFP in the new 12-team format.
The Buffs play the Utah Utes at home this weekend. The last time they beat the Utes was in 2016, and they lost by a touchdown last year. This game is not a gimmie for Colorado as Utah lost by a last-second field goal to Big 12’s top team: the BYU Cougars. After Saturday’s Rumble in the Rockies, the Buffaloes head to Kansas City to face the Kansas Jayhawks at Arrowhead Stadium, then come back to Folsom for their final game against Oklahoma State.
A CFP Bid would mark a significant turnaround for CU’s program as two years prior they went 1-11 and only won 4 games last year.
The Buffaloes face Utah on Saturday, and kickoff is set for 10 a.m. MT at Folsom Field (FOX).
