The University of Colorado’s club baseball team has announced its roster for the rapidly approaching fall ball season. After holding tryouts on Sept. 1 and 2, senior President Nathan Hoffman and his board have found their 32 guys for this autumn’s slate of exhibition games.

Seniors

The senior class is highlighted by Hoffman, who made the All-Mid-American Region 2nd Team at shortstop for his sharp defense and .500 on-base percentage last spring. They have pitchers Matt Longstreet and Peter Nickerson, among other familiar returning names like Rishi Nair, Cole Wayne and Matt Longstreet.

The seniors also welcome the return of Ashton Unzicker, who swung a 1.278 OPS in the 2023-24 season but took last year off.

For the potential and leadership qualities this class holds, they say goodbye to former President Andrew Garcia and outfielder Spencer Kaczmarski, who both made the Mid-Am 1st Team last June.

Juniors

The junior class holds eight ballplayers – the same number as seniors – and is led by Vice President Judson Stafford. Stafford sat out fall ball last year but posted a .276 average and .364 on-base during the spring.

Five sophomores from last year have become juniors on this squad, starting with pitchers Aidan Bartz and Victor Moreno. The right-hander in Moreno was a horse last spring, throwing the second-most innings (22.1) on the team with the second-lowest ERA at 3.22.

They also feature infielders Finn Simones and Cash Mardosz, along with outfielder Luca Genovese, who connected for 17 base hits last season. The two newcomers are pitcher Eli Crupi and outfielder Alex Weston.

Sophomores

The sophomores have the smallest class out of the bunch, bringing back six players from last year. They offer a wide range of help throughout the diamond, with each starting this fall at multiple positions.

Secretary Collin Dwyer had a breakout season last spring as a freshman, achieving the Mid-Am 1st Team after a blistering .459 batting average. The additional rollout of sophomore infielders includes Charlie Lesch, who’s primarily a catcher, Richie Biborosch, Max McGinnis and Evan Lawrentz.

The group is also bringing back outfielder Caedon Meyer, who only saw 11 at-bats last spring.

Freshman

Colorado welcomes 10 freshmen to the team, with only two being pitchers: Tyler Grey and Wesley Freed. Three others are offering their help on the mound in Gabe Zebrack, Kyle Cacciavillani and Lucas Comcowich, but are all listed as additional aid throughout the field.

Will Roberts, Jackson Gascou, Clint Wisley and Aiden Mehlberg will all play across the infield, with Luke Tofigh listed as the only solo outfielder.

The Buffs look to avenge yet another strong season with a sour ending, losing the Mid-Am West Conference to Colorado State for the second year in a row.

However, their 12-4 conference record helped secure their second consecutive at-large bid to the Mid-America Regional Tournament, losing straight games to Iowa State and Colorado State to be eliminated.

On Thursday, the club announced its first series of the year, to be played this weekend against Air Force Academy, with games on Saturday at 4 p.m. MT and Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Both games will be played in Colorado Springs.
