Colorado Cross Country teams sweep Roadrunners Invitational

Cross Country had their second meet of the season at the Roadrunners Invitational on Saturday morning, hosted by Metro State University. The No. 6-ranked men’s team competed in an 8k, and the No. 18-ranked women’s squad competed in the 6k, where they both swept the field of play and took home first place. 

The Roadrunners course is located at Washington Park, Denver, and sits at 5,300 feet above sea level. It is relatively flat, with no significant hills, and is considered a fast course under favorable weather conditions. 

The men’s team dominated the competition, finishing five runners in the race’s top-5. This pack was led by freshman Meshack Kipruto, who finished first in his collegiate debut with a time of 24 minutes flat. Right behind Kipruto was freshman Stephen Ndungu, who finished with a time of 24:02. 

The women’s team experienced a similar finish, with freshman Adrianna Buitelaar placing first in her collegiate debut and senior Abbey Mathison close behind. The women finished with a perfect score of 15 to close out the day.

The Buffaloes Cross Country team will travel to Madison, Wisconsin, to compete in the Nuttycombe Invitational on Oct. 9.
