Colorado steals five-star Julian Lewis from USC, adds to 2025 recruiting class

Colorado Buffaloes football added yet another star to their recruiting class for 2025 in quarterback Julian “Ju Ju” Lewis, a five-star commit out of Carrollton, Georgia.

Lewis had been committed to the USC Trojans since August of 2023, but after de-committing on Sunday, the Carrollton High School senior made his decision to flip to the Buffaloes on the Pat McAfee Show Thursday morning.

Lewis has been on four separate official visits to Boulder, with the most recent one coming just a couple of weeks ago for CU’s game against Cincinnati.

The entire Colorado community came together this summer to help flip the commitment. The Sink, a 101-year-old restaurant in Boulder, made headlines by introducing "Juju's Precision Pass Burger," while fans online started a "#WeWantJuJu" movement to build traction for his visit in June.

Clearly, the burger method must’ve worked, as the 6-foot-1 quarterback gave his verbal commitment to the Buffs on Thursday.

Lewis now appears to be in line to take the spot of quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who is set to enter the NFL Draft after this season. The prospect would not be the first top-flight player to immediately land a lead role in a premier spot for the Buffs under head coach Deion Sanders, as Jordan Seaton has started at offensive tackle this season and performed well as a true freshman. During his visit in June, Lewis was portrayed as being handed the "keys" to Colorado's offense by Shedeur.

Lewis provides a unique skill set for Colorado. Don’t let his size fool you, Lewis’s point guard-like distribution allows him to manipulate defenses. He may not have a cannon of an arm, but his compact release allows him to drop accurately placed balls over coverage. Lewis has also proven crafty footwork and is a natural at escaping the pocket when faced with pressure. His size may be something to bat an eye at, but his passing ability made him one of the most sought-after recruits in the country.

The signal-caller will be joining Adrian Wilson (Pflugerville, TX) and Quanell Farrakhan Jr. (Spring, TX), two four-star wide receivers as targets for him alongside Colorado’s now 11-man 2025 recruiting class.

Sporting the black and gold throughout high school, the quarterback has found his collegiate colors to be the same.
