Colorado women’s tennis duo achieves highest doubles ranking in school history

As the start of the 2024-25 collegiate tennis season creeps around the corner, Colorado Buffaloes duo Pia Rebec and Aya El Sayed are set on making history.

For the first time in 26 years, a Buffalo duo was ranked in the preseason rankings with Rebec and El Sayed coming in at No. 8 in the nation.

This duo is yet another international pair with Rebec resigning from Slovenia and El Sayed out of Egypt. In Rebec’s first year competing at the Division I level, she saw glimpses of success with a 10-14 singles record and a 16-9 doubles record. El Sayed has only raised her level of competition every season as she broke into the team's No. 1 spot for singles last year, claiming a second-team All-Pac 12 honor with a singles record of 10-4 in the fall and 9-8 in the spring.

The duet’s campaign started back in the 2023-24 season where they instantly had success, finishing the fall slate with a record of 7-3. That got them moved up into the No. 1 spot for doubles going into the spring season where they secured two ranked wins against USC and Washington, finishing the spring 9-7.

That brought them into the rankings on five different occasions, the most since 2014-15, ending the season at No. 55 in the nation and No. 2 in the Mountain Region.

Come August 2024, the duet jumped 47 spots to No. 8 in the preseason rankings where they look to start a dominant season at the Battle in the Bay on September 12-15.
