A hot start to the season for the Colorado Buffaloes’ soccer team cooled this week when they lost two games in a row.

The then-No. 13 Buffaloes lost to the No. 25 Texas Tech Red Raiders and the UCF Knights.

Colorado squandered an early lead against the Red Raiders and lost momentum in a 3-1 loss on Sept. 27. The Buffs had a chance to get back into the game, but midfielder Reagan Kotschau’s penalty kick was miraculously stopped by Red Raiders goalie and Colorado native Addie Todd.

In the Buffs’ road loss to the Knights six days later — it was the opposite story. UCF got out to a quick lead and never looked back, scoring a goal in the 14th minute and another in the 51st minute, pushing the Knights to a 2-0 win.

Colorado dropped to No. 24 in the rankings and 2-2 in Big 12 play.

"I think with the last couple matches we've played well in spurts. I think we have to put 90 minutes together,” head coach Danny Sanchez told CU Athletics. “As simple as that sounds, it's not always that simple. I think we have to be more efficient going forward, and we have to really limit their opportunities and their dangerous players.”

The Buffs’ next chance to put a full game together comes on Thursday, when they host the No. 9 Baylor Bears.

"I think they've had a great season so far," Sanchez said. "They're very well coached. They don't give up a lot. Obviously, they have a fantastic goalkeeper. Their back four is very good, and they're very diverse going forward. A lot of different weapons and a lot of different players step up and score goals. So we're going to have to play well on Thursday to get a result."

After giving up five goals in the last two games, the Buffs will have to limit Baylor's opportunities in the defensive third. Baylor has scored 25 goals this year, which ranks 50th in the country. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. MT (ESPN+).
