Former Buff Jimmy Horn Jr. signs with Cleveland Browns
Former Colorado wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. found a new home after the Carolina Panthers released him, with the Cleveland Browns signing him to their practice squad on Sept. 18.
Horn was released by Carolina following a pivotal muffed punt in their week one matchup at home versus the Chicago Bears. Because Horn had been getting mostly special teams duties with limited offensive opportunities, the mistake proved costly enough for head coach Dave Canales to cut him from the 53-man roster after the elevating linebacker Tyrel Dodson.
Across 14 career games up, Horn has 11 receptions for 108 yards, as well as opening the 2026 season as Carolina’s primary kickoff and punt returner, handling seven total touches in week one.
Following the news of his release by the Panthers, Horn’s former Colorado head coach Deion Sanders said he immediately “made some calls.” Sanders also credited his character.
“This kid is a great human being–if you wanted to just get rid of him,” Sanders said. “It wasn’t about character.”
This acquisition marks a potential reunion between Horn and his former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The pair both arrived at Colorado in 2023, and immediately formed chemistry through the air, connecting for six touchdowns that season. Horn finished his two-season career at Colorado with 1,008 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
Horn will have a lot of work to do to find first-team reps for the Browns in a crowded wide receiver room. He will likely have to compete with Isaiah Bond and Tylan Wallace for reserve slots on the roster.
