Colorado Buffaloes men’s basketball team closed out a tight 79-70 victory over the Kansas State Wildcats last Wednesday night, on the back of a lights-out shooting performance by freshman guard Ian Inman.
Head coach Tad Boyle had high praise for the freshman after the victory.
“There are two kinds of shooters. There are shot takers, and there are shot makers,” Boyle said. “Ian is a shot maker. We see that every day in practice.”
Inman entered the game off the bench in the first half, adding an almost immediate impact. He hit three 3-pointers in the first half.
“It’s always good to hit 3s, that's what I kind of do,” Inman said. “Ultimately, what's going through my mind is just trying to get back on defense.”
Inman finished the second half with two more 3s, making five of his seven attempts, and a pair of free throws. He also added five rebounds.
Inman mentioned his mentality during the season, dealing with inconsistent minutes. Throughout the beginning of the season, Inman was often buried at the back end of the rotation.
“It's just always been sticking to my grind,” Inman said. “Coach Boyle has told me a lot that you are going to get in at some point. When your time comes, you ultimately have to produce. So shoutout Coach Boyle, appreciate him.”
Inman's minutes have been ramping up since CU’s most recent game against Texas Tech, where Inman played 23 minutes and knocked down four 3s.
Before his emergence into the rotation against Iowa State, Inman had seen limited production. In his first nine appearances of the season before Iowa State, Inman had failed to reach double-figure minutes and scored just 11 total points combined.
Inman has tallied more than 10 minutes in six of his last nine games. He finished the game with a career-high 17 points.
The Buffaloes will continue their season this Tuesday when they take on the Utah Utes at 7 p.m. MT (ESPN+).
