The No. 15-ranked Colorado Buffaloes had quite a showing last Saturday, beating the Arizona State Sun Devils on Kittredge Field, 19-5. With this win, the Buffs retained their home winning streak, having won all seven of their home games this year.
The game was led by Junior Teagan Ryan, who recorded four goals and two assists on the day. She was joined by freshman Rowan Edson, who recorded four goals on the day as well.
Rachel Kennedy recorded another hat trick with three goals and one assist. Lily Assini and Molly Reed both recorded two points, and Jaimey Hill, Averi Gardner and Natalie Myslinski all put up one goal each.
This game recorded Edson's career-high in goals in a game, four, as well as in shots on goal and caused turnovers. The Buffs outshot the Sun Devils by 38-12, over tripling ASU’s attempts. They also dominated in draw controls, 19-7.
"We know this team from last year and have a little bit of a chip on our shoulder, especially with them ending our season last year," said Maddie Shoup, one of eight seniors CU honored Saturday. "I think being able to celebrate Senior Day and being able to play them is just amazing. I think we all came out ready to play and were very successful."
The first quarter started even, with Ryan opening up scoring for the Buffs. CU then added to its lead after a goal by Shoup, her 30th of the season. ASU was quick to respond, scoring two goals back-to-back and tying up the game.
This was where the Sun Devils' luck ran out as Colorado surged on a six-goal run to enter the second quarter leading the Sun Devils 7-2.
The Buffs started the second strong, scoring just 45 seconds into the quarter. ASU was quick to respond and added a goal of their own. Unfortunately for the Sun Devils, the Buffs did one better than the first, with a seven-goal run to end the half up 15-3.
Colorado came out strong in the second half and was able to add four more points to the lead by the time the final buzzer sounded.
The Buffs could not have asked for a better finish to the regular season, going a perfect 7-0 at home and finishing 12-3. The Buffs will rematch the Sun Devils on Thursday as they travel to Gainesville, Florida, for the Big 12 tournament. First draw is set for 5 p.m. MT (ESPN+).
