The Colorado Buffaloes took on the Marquette Golden Eagles (4-3) at Kittredge Field on Tuesday afternoon. Colorado (2-4) entered the matchup looking to bounce back after a home loss to No. 5 Michigan. CU efficiently got it done, improving to 2-1 at home with a 15-6 win.
MU came out firing, as its first shot on goal found the back of the net. After two quick goals in under three minutes, Buffs leading scorer Madeline Pisani made sure the deficit didn’t grow, responding confidently to put CU back within one. That goal proved to be all her team needed to get going on its home field. The Buffs scored seven straight after that with a pair of goals each for Lily Assini and Jaimey Hill.
The Buffs were able to capitalize on two player-advantages caused by penalties committed by the Golden Eagles. Making the most of the multiple power-plays and transitions, CU went into halftime up seven. Teagan Ryan played a major part in CU’s productivity, putting up a hat trick in the first half alone. Ten goals made up Colorado’s best half so far this season.
While the first 30 minutes of the match were filled with firepower for the Buffs, the second half was controlled by CU goalie Elena Oh. The freshman earned her second straight Big 12 goalkeeper of the week honor mid-game and continued to prove her deservedness. Benefitting from 17 turnovers given up by the Golden Eagles, Oh boasted six saves on 12 shots on goal.
Seven players scored for the Buffs, including another hat trick for Maddie Shoup. Both Pisani and Morgan Pence finished with four total points on two goals and two assists. Up 14-4, a 10-goal advantage running clock was administered with 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
After a challenging start to the Buffs’ season with five straight ranked opponents, including two of the top-five teams in the country, CU’s schedule will finally ease up a bit.
The Buffs will be back in action for another home matchup on Saturday against the Iona Gaels (1-5). Watch on ESPN+ at noon MT.
