Colorado club baseball blew out the Metropolitan State Roadrunners on Sunday, to win the deciding game of its home-opening three-game series, 17-5. The game ended on a mercy rule after seven innings, after the Buffaloes found the rhythm they lost in Game 2 on Saturday.

A scoreless tie held until the fourth inning, when the Buffaloes came to bat twelve times. A hard ground ball with the bases loaded from senior Jack Hamilton stayed fair by the third base line, scoring two and breaking the tie. Junior Nathan Hoffman, freshman Richie Biborosch, and Hamilton each had two RBIs in the fourth, delivering timely hits to build the large lead for the Buffs.

At the plate, veterans guided the Buffs in the offensive onslaught. Senior Andrew Garcia went 3-for-3, collecting an RBI in the fifth with an infield single. At separate ends of the lineup, Hoffman and Hamilton each went 2-for-4, combining for 5 RBIs.

On the mound, sophomore Salvatore Timpani went five and two-thirds innings, giving up his three earned runs in the sixth. Wes Barnett and Eoin Plunkett came in relief to maintain the Buffs’ strong lead. A double play Hoffman made at shortstop ended the 12-run rout of the Roadrunners.

The Buffs improved to 3-4, claiming the home opening series at Scott Carpenter Park. CU will head south to face the Air Force Falcons in a three-game series next weekend, starting Saturday at 10 a.m. MT.
