PALO ALTO, Calif. — The Colorado Buffaloes women’s golf squad finished middle of the pack against many of the best teams in the nation on Sunday.
Seven of the 19 teams that competed in the tournament are ranked inside the top 15, highlighted by No. 2 USC, No. 3 Stanford and No. 4 Oregon.
Stanford dominated the tournament as hosts, taking home the victory. The Cardinal's 35-under final score beat out the Ducks by 21 strokes.
Colorado’s team score sat at 3-under heading into the final round. Third-round collapses continued to plague the Buffs, causing the team to finish 9-over. The Buffaloes have shot their worst score in the final round in three of their four tournaments this year.
"It was a disappointing final round, but overall we are happy with the final result," Colorado head coach Madeleine Sheils told CU Athletics.
Junior Carolyn Fuller was the only Buffalo to shoot under par in California (-2). She shone in the second round, holing five birdies en route to a 3-under round. Fuller finished out the tournament with an even par in the third round, placing tied for 15th individually.
Vanessa Ngo also dominated in the second round, shooting the best single round at the tournament by a Buffalo (-4). A decent final round would have elevated the sophomore in the final rankings, but six bogeys led to a score of 6-over. Ngo dropped 22 spots after her third round, leaving her tied at 30th place with a 2-over final score.
Ellen O’Shaughnessy shot 2-under in the first round but was unable to stay under par. The Ireland native shot 3-over in her final two rounds, dropping her overall score to 4-over. The sophomore finished tied for 37th individually.
Freshman Teemapat Pateetin and junior Maya McVey struggled at the Stanford intercollegiate. The duo played their best in the second round, each scoring 1-over. Pateetin shot 3-over in the first and 5-over in the third, bringing her final score to 9-over. McVey finished at 10-over with similar scores.
Despite the lack of production in the third round, the Buffs should be proud of themselves for beating out eight teams ranked higher than them (all within the top 40), including No. 6 Texas, No. 11 Northwestern and No. 12 Oklahoma State.
The Buffaloes have one last tournament of the fall portion of their 2025-26 season. Colorado heads to Hawaii to compete in The Nanea Invitational starting on Monday.
