Fresh off their 1-0 loss against the Michigan State Spartans, the Colorado Buffaloes (4-1-1) shut out the New Mexico Lobos 3-0. The Buffs' offense continued to impress as they dominated for most of the game and outshot New Mexico 21 to 10.

The first half started slow for both sides. That changed at the eight-minute mark when Colorado forward Ruby Hayward found the back of the net to give the Buffs the first goal of the game.

The goal was a huge momentum shift and fueled an already rowdy crowd. The crowd’s energy felt almost palpable as the Buffs went on the offensive, berating the Lobos keeper with multiple shots until a headed goal from Emma Thielbahr extended the lead to two.

The Buffs continued on the offensive, but the Lobos’ defense held firm. New Mexico neutralized Colorado for the remainder of the first-half, but were unable to carve into their deficit.

The second half started uneventfully as both teams struggled to gain the upper hand. Even though multiple scoring opportunities presented themselves for both sides, neither was able to capitalize as both defenses countered each chance

In the 66th minute, Hope Leyba had a chance that barely went wide of the net. The near-goal seemed to wake up the CU offense, as minutes later, midfielder Michaela McGowan found the corner of the goal to extend the lead to three and elicit a roar from the stands.

The Buffs were able to contain the Lobos for the rest of the game to secure the much-needed victory.

“We’ve got to feed off the energy,” said Colorado head coach Danny Sanchez. “I thought the energy tonight was fantastic from the supporters, and we’ve got to take advantage of being at home.”

The Buffs look to carry the energy into their next game as they will host the Utah State Aggies on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 11:15 a.m. MT (ESPN+).
