The Colorado Buffaloes women’s Gold club soccer team played its biggest match of the season on Sunday when it headed up to Fort Collins to face the Colorado State Rams.

Heading into the match, Colorado Gold sat at No. 1 in the US College Club Soccer (USCCS) rankings as of Oct. 19, and Colorado State sat at No. 2. All eyes were on this game heading into Sunday.

The match finished in a 0-0 draw. Both backlines had strong performances, as they stifled either team from scoring. This defensive clash between the top two teams in the nation was quite a stalemate through and through.

This game was the final game of CSU’s season, meaning that it finished with a 7-0-1 record. Since Colorado Gold already had a draw earlier in the season, putting it at 5-0-2, the Rams clinched the top spot in the Rocky Mountain division.

However, both teams have officially clinched their spot in the USCCS National Championship Gold Bracket, which is the top bracket in the tournament. This is due to the fact that the top two teams in the Rocky Mountain division lay claim to the Gold Bracket.

The Buffaloes clinched this bracket after drawing with CSU due to the third-place team, Colorado Black, finishing its season with one less point than Colorado Gold.

Colorado Gold has one final game on its season, facing off against the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers. Since Colorado drew with CSU on Sunday, this game has no playoff implications.

After their one final game at home, the Buffaloes will fly out to Bradenton, Florida, to contend for the National title. The team has a very rich history in the USCCS, as they have won this national title 5 times over the course of their history.

Facing much tougher competition, the Buffaloes will be looking to their top scorer of the season, forward Stella Stone, to play a large role in this match. She has scored in every match but two this season, and has 13 goals of the team’s 34 goals.

In the Buffaloes’ first draw of the season against the Colorado College Tigers, Stone was the sole scorer, which earned her USCCS Player of the Week honors. She earned the award again when scoring six goals against Colorado Silver on Oct.10.

The National Tournament is from Nov. 11-15 and will be streamed on BallerTV.
