Fright Night at Folsom! Fan costumes scored more than the Buffs

Although the scariest thing at Folsom Field Saturday night was the score, there were costumes in the stands that tried to rival it. University of Colorado students came out to support the Buffaloes in the cold, wearing everything from superhero suits to bundled-up pajama onesies.
Halloweekend in Boulder has a certain kind of energy, and pairing that with the chaos of a CU gameday only amplifies it. Fans were dressed to impress, but the game was its own horror movie.

Whether the costumes were last-minute, super thought-out or entirely foregone in favor of $130 jerseys we all have a limited time to wear, the crowd had a blast. You could look around and see splotches of red lobsters, bundles of bananas and nearly one Batman for every row.

That much chaos in one stadium is a uniquely Boulder experience, and even though the Buffs were losing from the start, the fans in costumes were winning. After what many people declared a long weekend, they still made it out for one of the last games of the season, considering the final home game will be during fall break.
Truthfully, seeing a Coach Prime costume behind “Sexy Patrick Star” was a sight to behold, and everyone leaned into their character. Former CU quarterback Shedeur Sanders attended the game, hanging out on the sideline, so the ‘Coach Prime’ behind us had no shortage of things to say.
Some students had makeup on that resembled mermaids or clowns, while others stuck to props like pipes and stuffed animals.

Nearly half the stadium showed up in costumes so the participation was impressive! There were some very original costumes, including "Crazy Frog," and the meme "Gay Little Monkey," who really committed to the bit, bringing an iPad to play on during the game.
Football was not the highlight of the night for Buff fans. The Arizona Wildcats came to play, and the Buffs weren’t able to keep up. Starting with high energy, the crowd and costumes got progressively more unhinged as hordes left the game to flaunt their costumes elsewhere. By the second quarter, the energy might as well have been buried six feet under.
The fans that remained kept on having a grand old time and failed to lose their sense of humor. A mob wife in a warm fur coat said, “Well, at least we look good losing,” getting the Minions around her to laugh at the situation.

Someone dressed up as "Your Tinder Match" was running around telling people he was 6-foot-4 and emotionally mature, while an "Etsy Witch" placed a curse on Arizona’s team.
One section followed Oklahoma State's trend, filling with stands with fans who had taken off their shirts to swing them around.
Whether you were painted all red and woke up stained the next morning, or were in a Stitch onesie that you got to fall asleep in, the chance to dress up in costume for a football game should be taken advantage of more often.
I’m glad for everyone who showed out and for those who dressed in Buffs gear, saying they were dressed as ‘a disappointment’ by halftime. To the cops who were in the stands in cop costumes, I respect it.

That game might have been a funeral, but at least some came dressed for the occasion.
Until next Halloweekend in Boulder, we love you.
