Travis Hunter selected No. 2 overall by Jaguars in 2025 NFL Draft

The 2024 Heisman Trophy winner has added first-round draft pick status to his already impressive resume, as Colorado Buffaloes wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter was selected No. 2 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday.

The former No. 1 recruit in the class of 2022 transferred to CU from Jackson State in 2023 to continue playing for coach Deion Sanders and has been a revolutionary player for the team ever since. 

During his sophomore season in 2023, Hunter recorded 721 yards and five touchdowns on 57 receptions as a wide receiver while also racking up 31 tackles, five passes defensed and three interceptions as a cornerback. Unfortunately, an injury caused him to miss three games and prevented further production, but he did earn the Paul Hornung Award for the limited sample size. 

However, in 2024, fans were treated to a full season of Hunter. He recorded 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns on 96 receptions at wide receiver, along with 35 tackles, 11 passes defensed, four interceptions and a forced fumble as a cornerback. This historic performance earned him the second Heisman Trophy in Colorado football history, a second straight Paul Hornung Award, AP College Football Player of the Year and many other awards. 

Hunter will join a receiver room alongside Brian Thomas Jr., Gabe Davis, and Dyami Brown and a secondary with Zech McPhearson, Tyson Campbell, Christian Braswell, and De’Antre Prince next season. He now looks to make an impact on both sides of the ball for Jacksonville and help elevate a struggling roster. They finished with a record of 4-13 in 2024, but selecting a player like Hunter, who can impact the game on both offense and defense, will do wonders in elevating their level of play.
