UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wa. – Colorado Buffaloes women’s golf tied with the University of Louisiana at Monroe for ninth place at the Leadership and Golf Invitational.

The Buffs squad has changed since its last tournament. Four new golfers arrived: three freshmen and a Central Missouri State junior transfer, Maya Mcvey.

The newcomers will try to match the production of Sydney Givens and Maria Eidhagen Harrouch, both of whom transferred to Georgia. The duo were among the highest-ranked Buffs on the team last year.

With no seniors on the team, leadership and experience are not strong suits for the Buffs.

The Black and Gold quintet finished the tournament at Chamber Bay Golf Club 34 strokes over par, which would have been the team’s third-worst finish-to-par in 2024-25.

Eastern Michigan won the tournament with a score of 5-under par, followed by Oregon State (-1) and San Jose State ( +2). A 21-stroke gap sits between the third-place Spartans and fourth-place Cal Poly (+23).

Eastern Michigan’s Janae Leovao won the individual title with a score of 7-under.

Freshman Teemapat Pateetin led the Buffs in Washington, shooting 6-over par. The Thailand native started the tournament strong with rounds of 2-over and even-par. Her second round even-par, was the best individual round by a Buff. Pateetin shot 4-over in the third round, good for 20th individually.

Central Missouri State transfer McVey stayed consistent throughout all three rounds. She shot 2-over in the first round and 3-over in both rounds two and three. The junior holed the most birdies on the team (10). She finished 24th on the individual podium with a score of 8-over.

Carolyn Fuller posted a 1-over first-round score. The junior was unable to replicate her early round performance, shooting 6-over in the second and 3-over in the third round. Fuller’s final score of 10-over placed 37th among all individuals.

Returning sophomore Ellen O’Shaughnessy and freshman Brenna Higgins struggled in the first tournament of the year. Despite having a year of collegiate golf under her belt, O’Shaughnessy claimed the worst score by the team in Washington (+14). The Dublin native never got into a groove, shooting 3-over or worse in all three rounds.

Higgins finished one stroke better than O’Saughnessy, 13-over. She shot just five birdies through 54 holes of golf, the least amount by anyone wearing black and gold.

Collectively, the Buffs shot 8-over in the first round, followed by 12-over in the second and 14-over in the third. Late-round struggles continue to plague the Buffs, a trend that can be traced back to last year.

The Buffs look to regroup quickly with the Colonel Wollenberg Ram Classic coming up on Monday and Tuesday in Fort Collins.
