On Sunday, the Colorado Buffaloes (12-4-1, Big 12 6-3) defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils 2-0 in Arizona. The win can be credited to Faith and Hope Leyba, who both scored, and Colorado goalkeeper Brooke Goerish, who kept a clean sheet with seven saves.

The game started off very hot with Colorado testing the goalkeeper twice in the first 12 minutes.

The dominance followed as Faith put her body on the line during the 22nd minute to stop two Arizona State defenders as they had an open look at the goal.

The momentum would eventually lead to the first score of the game, which occurred in the 33rd minute when Hope scored her 10th goal of the season and 42nd of her career.

Heading into halftime, the Buffs led the Sun Devils 1-0, thanks in large part to the 12 shots by CU.

In the 62nd minute, Colorado midfielder Reagan Kotschau drew a foul in her own half. The ensuing free kick near midfield was perfectly placed for Faith, who buried the ball in the upper-right corner to extend the Buffs’ lead to two.

The offensive pressure from the Sun Devils turned up following the goal, but Goerish and the Colorado backline shut down the final three shot attempts to secure the victory.

“I think there’s a lot of parity in the league, and we’re excited to be here, but we still got work to get done in the regular season,” said CU head coach Danny Sanchez following the victory.

The victory officially secured the Buffs a position in the Big 12 tournament, which will begin on Nov. 9.

The Colorado Buffaloes return home to host the Cincinnati Bearcats (4-7-5, Big 12 2-5-2) in the second-to-last regular-season fixture. Kickoff is set for Friday at 7 p.m. MT (ESPN+).
