It was announced that forward David Gomez committed to the Colorado Buffaloes men’s basketball squad on Thursday, following UNC Greensboro forward Justin Neely’s commitment on Wednesday.

Neely played for the University of Albany Great Danes for his first four years in college, averaging 11.5 points and seven rebounds per game during the 2024-25 season. Despite his long tenure with the Great Danes, Neely only played in eight combined games during his sophomore and junior seasons due to an ACL injury.

Last year with UNC Greensboro, the 6-foot-6 forward started all 34 games for the Spartans and led the team in points (17.9), rebounds (11.5), assists (2.4) and steals (0.9) per game. Neely’s 11.5 rebounds per game were the most by any player in the Southern Conference and second-most among all DI players.

Gomez, on the other hand, only played two games of collegiate basketball with the Charlotte 49ers before sustaining a season-ending injury. However, the incoming sophomore has international experience, competing with Spain’s youth national team in the 2024 FIBA U20 EuroBasket, 2023 FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup and the 2022 FIBA U18 European Championship.

Over three international competitions, Gomez averaged five points, three rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.

Unlike Gomez, Tad Boyle and his staff will most likely be looking for Neely to be a starter and leader for the Black and Gold in the 2026-27 season.

Aside from rising senior Barrington Hargress, the Buffs don’t have a proven leader on their squad and didn’t have a reliable rebounder until Neely’s commitment. He brings the experience and strong rebounding that Colorado is lacking.

These two commitments bring Colorado’s current roster total to 11, leaving four spots for the coaching staff to fill.
