Although it feels like the season just ended, a new one is approaching rapidly, leaving programs all over the country scrambling to finalize their rosters for the 2026-27 campaign. Over the past 10 days, the Colorado Buffaloes have welcomed two new faces to campus with the signing of forward Chase Hill on Monday and the commitment of guard Luke Mirhashemi on May 9.
The freshmen duo stand just two inches apart, yet bring vastly different skillsets and abilities to Boulder.
Hill, a 6-foot-7 freshman from San Antonio, Texas, brings size and physicality to a depleted Colorado frontcourt.
Mirhashemi plays more of a true point guard role, controlling the floor and dishing out assists, much like Buffs guard Barrington Hargress. This past season, the 6-foot-5 guard led Corona del Mar High School to a 27-4 record, averaging 6.6 assists per game in the regular season.
The playmaker from Newport Beach, California, was not heavily recruited out of high school and did not announce any other offers.
Hill graduated from TMI-Episcopal School, a Texas Military Institute, and helped lead the Panthers to a 21-9 record, averaging 12 points and four rebounds per game.
In the press release, Colorado coach Tad Boyle revealed Hill's signing to Colorado was no coincidence.
“I knew Chase before he could even walk," Boyle said. "I wouldn't say I've watched him grow up by any means, but I've certainly stayed in touch with coach (Bob) Hill.”
Hill’s grandfather, Bob Hill, coached in the NBA, NCAA and other leagues for over 30 years, and was an assistant coach at Kansas during Boyle’s playing days.
“He's a coach's kid and the grandson of a coach, so basketball is in the family's blood,” Boyle said.
Considering the late acquisitions, it is suspected that neither freshman will play a large role for Colorado in the upcoming season, yet with so many uncertainties surrounding the future of the Buffs, anything is possible.
Boyle and the Buffs still have three roster spots left to fill.
